Mechanical Inspector Job Responsibilities:

• Inspect and test mechanical installations in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations
• Advise contractors on required changes to achieve code compliance and engage in periodic surveillance to detect violations
• Perform inspections of existing commercial businesses for Certificates of Use and Occupancy
• Conduct field inspections of air-conditioning and heating systems, insulation, pressure and process piping, refrigeration, cooling towers, pneumatic tube conveyors, medical gases, industrial and commercial ventilating systems, commercial kitchen exhaust systems, spray booths, fire sprinkler systems, and similar mechanical systems
• Perform acceptance tests for mechanical systems, including exhaust and supply fan operation and discharge tests for automatic fire suppression systems
• Provide recommendations and suggestions to contractors regarding necessary changes to ensure compliance with building codes
• Conduct routine patrols and inspections of assigned areas to detect code violations
• Organize inspection route schedules and maintain accurate records of inspections
• Respond to inquiries from contractors and the public, offering information and assisting in conflict resolution
• Approve qualifications for homeowners' permits

Mechanical Inspector Requirements:

• Extensive knowledge of building construction materials, methods, and practices in mechanical installations
• Strong understanding of potential defects in mechanical systems and effective corrective measures
• Comprehensive knowledge of codes and regulations governing mechanical installations, alterations, and repairs
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and blueprints, and identify deviations from approved plans
• Excellent communication skills to explain and enforce codes and regulations tactfully and impartially
• Proficiency in using personal computers and relevant software applications
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
• Florida Standard Inspector Mechanical License required
• Certification as a Mechanical Inspector by the Miami Dade County Board of Rules and Appeals
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
