Field Service Electrical Technician
Field Electrical Technician Job Description:
Our client is a manufacturer of customized switchgear primed for expansion into new markets. We are seeking a Field Service Electrical Technician to perform on-site servicing, diagnostics and repairs on electrical products or equipment. This is a new addition to the team and an excellent role for someone to make a great impact on a growing company.
Engineer to perform field measurement and retrofit assessments of electrical power distribution equipment including switchgear, control wiring, etc. Our technicians make site visits to customers for troubleshooting and problem resolution, as well as advising on installations. They also support in-house Sales and Engineering teams with development of customer solutions and contributing to sales presentations.
Field Electrical Technician Responsibilities:
- Perform diagnostics and repairs on electrical power distribution equipment to ensure that customer needs are resolved in a timely and high quality manner.
- Inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start up and collect data of low, medium and/or high voltage electrical systems.
- Conduct Low, Medium and/or High voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing and measuring
- Perform inspection, maintenance, testing and repair of all electrical distribution equipment.
- Support the sales and engineering teams in translating measurements into drawings
- Other installations, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair activities as needed.
Field Electrical Technician Desired Skills & Expertise:
- 2+ years’ experience operating and working on electrical equipment in the field, which may sometimes be live.
- BS Engineering a plus.
- Solid understanding of electrical codes, particularly NEC and local Chicago codes
- Proficient in reading and accurately interpreting wiring diagrams, single lines, 3-phase power systems and switchboard/panel schedules.
- Solid understanding of low to high voltage switch gear, cabinets, switchboard enclosures, electricity and good aptitude for problem solving.
- MUST be comfortable handling and maintaining live equipment and demonstrate proper safety procedures in doing so.
- Excellent customer service, time management and ability to work a flexible schedule including some off hours as needed for emergency customer issues
- Experience in servicing, testing, and maintenance of switchgear, a plus.
- Experience with refurbishing electrical distribution equipment, a plus
- Able to work nights/weekends and travel within state on occasion
