Job Summary

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Director of Accounting with very strong, and complex Accounting skills to lead our accounting and finance operations to drive financial excellence across our multistate organization. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s accounting functions across multiple brands. This role requires a hands-on, extensive experience in people management, financial management, cost control, and strategic planning within a retail environment. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of accounting principles, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency in Corporate Food-related Retail.

This position would require relocation to Southern California. This is NOT a remote or hybrid role; must be willing to be in office 5 days a week.

Sr. Director of Accounting Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the accounting department, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
  • Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and IFRS regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to enhance financial performance and safeguard assets.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget, and financial forecasts, and report variances.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Oversee the consolidation of financial statements for multiple retail units or entities (50+ locations)
  • Collaborate with senior management to develop and execute financial strategies that support the company's growth and profitability.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support decision-making and drive business performance.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, accounting standards, and regulatory changes to ensure compliance and best practices.
  • Create scalable business processes, emphasizing internal controls and business process documentation. Ensure our Accounting and control environment meets standards and protects company assets.

Sr. Director of Accounting Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA required.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a Director or VP leadership role within a high-volume ($500M+), multi-unit food-related retail environment. (with extensive Grocery/Supermarket accounting experience)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP, SOX, IFRS, financial reporting, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing accounting policies and internal controls.
  • Must have Corporate Retail or Corporate F&B Retail experience in Accounting/Finance; and a team processing a minimum 10,000 Invoices per month
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Extensive experience with preparing Financials and leading teams for Audits (experience signing off on Audits)
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams. Oversight of up to 20 finance/accounting leaders (Controllers, Assistant Controllers, AR, AP, Payroll, Tax, Analysts)
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with senior management and cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in multiple accounting software and ERP systems. Oracle expertise is highly preferred.
  • Extensive experience pulling together Consolidation Financial packages for US and International leadership teams
