Job Summary

SUMMARY:

Creates and maintains new customers. Seeks to purchase non-ferrous and ferrous metals from various business and industrial establishments or individuals at sales office, or customer’s place of business. Develops and enhances existing customer and business relationships to grow our scrap volumes.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education and/ or Experience: High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED), or one to three years related experience, and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. College degree, a plus. Sales experience preferred.
  • Language and Communication Skills: Ability to read, write and interpret in English such as safety rules, highway and roadway signs, maps and directions. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees. Superb customer service. Critical thinking and excellent time management skills
  • Valid Driver’s License and good driving record required.
  • Physical Demands: “Light”: Must be able to drive a motor vehicle on a daily basis to visit customers. Exerting up to 20lbs of force occasionally, or up to 10lbs of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Requires six or more hours of intermittent standing or walking in an eight-hour day. Sitting for regular periods is required. Stooping and bending required occasionally. Must be able to see, listen and respond to dangerous situations.
  • Work Environment: Usually working indoors, with occasional work outdoors or traveling in the elements. Getting in and out of motor vehicle in various weather conditions.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Compiles lists of prospective customers from information gleaned from newspapers, business directories, industry ads, community updates, and other sources for use as sales leads.
  • Establishes a sales plan to visit designated territories each week.
  • Puts safety first in all things: driving, operations, visits, etc.
  • Assist in developing strategic plans for new business to generate new sources of raw material.
  • Visit and maintain current and potential customers such as demolition contractors, dealers, auto wreckers, construction projects, industrial accounts to generate and investigate new sources of material.
  • Collaborate with Operations concerning the grading of material received from customers.
  • Purchase ferrous and non-ferrous metals from dealer and industrial accounts.
  • Monitor commodity market trends in conjunction with the operation’s material flow to make informed purchase decisions to maximize profitability.
  • Discusses methods of delivery to customer or prospective customer based on knowledge of production and delivery schedules.
  • Prepares reports of business transactions as required and keeps expense account log.
  • Works with all levels of staff to support and balance customers and operations.
  • Investigates and resolves customer complaints.
  • Maintains customer database and uploads new customers and other necessary sales data
  • Protects company data, assets, and resources.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or designated manager to meet company needs
