Job Summary
Commercial Trader (Commercial Trading Manager)
Responsibilities:
- Market, sell, and trade ferrous and non-ferrous products produced, purchased, or brokered by the company.
- Keep management and the commercial team informed about domestic and international scrap metal markets.
- Actively seek new consumers for ferrous and non-ferrous products handled by the company.
- Provide input on quality control, sorting, and packaging standards.
- Develop and present procedures for educating the team and maintaining product standards.
- Collaborate with the commercial department to create and sustain product margins, balancing buy prices with sales prices.
- Work closely with operations, transportation, and commercial teams to maximize inventory turnover, utilizing proactive strategies for accurate forecasting.
- Supply strategic insights for monthly buy/sell plans and new product development.
- Report directly to the President and Executive Management Team, providing regular updates (at least twice weekly) on all aspects of commercial trading, including:
- Current and future market trends
- Consumer trends and potential base expansion
- Current and projected sales
- Finished goods quality and packaging
- Consumer feedback
- Sales and credit requests
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of direct commercial experience in the scrap metal industry.
- In-depth knowledge of finished products, including quality and packaging standards.
- Familiarity with domestic and export consumers.
- Proven ability to network and expand the consumer base.
- Willingness to travel for consumer visits, industry events, and roundtables.
- Standard work hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with availability for “off-hour” communications.
- The trader must operate within the company’s established price and credit limits, with adjustments and oversight as necessary.
